Up DEQ Wind Turbine 2009 Slideshow

On Wednesday September 23, 2009 construction began on a tower for a new 50 kW wind turbine at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Saginaw Bay District Office located at 410 Ketchum St. in Bay City. Kent Power Inc. was contracted to erect the wind turbine which will produce approximately 30% of the office electricity. This 25,000 sq. ft. office opened in February of 2009 and is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified State office building in Michigan. The LEED certification program is administered by the U.S. Green Building Council. This building is loaded with energy efficient and sustainable features some of which include; 28 skylights to bring natural lighting into the office area, recycled blue jean insulation in the walls and waterless urinals in the rest rooms. The Building is also home to the Division of Rehabilitation Services in the Michigan Department of Energy Labor and Economic Growth.
